Company History

Our first add from Homebuyers Magazine, June 1982Pierce Signs & Displays, Inc. was originally started as A & M Outdoor, an off-site directional real estate sign company in 1980 by Arnold Pierce. Arnold decided to start his own company, after working for several competitors in the sign business. He felt there was a great need for a company who was professional, conscientious and most of all reliable. His experience, expertise and respect in the industry led to A & M Outdoors’ enormous success. Arnold is an expert in obtaining “impossible” leases for on and off-site signs, he has and continues to be a champion in taking city planners and ordinances to the mat, for illegally prohibiting real estate signs.

Shortly after Arnold started A& M Outdoor, his wife Mary Pierce came on board to help expand the business to offer more services to their home builder clients. Arnold Pierce Associates was added to provide Sales Office Displays and On-Site Signs. Soon large commercial clients such as Apple Computer looked to Arnold to fabricate and ship signs worldwide.

Over the years the company grew, added more employees and eventually outgrew the small home office and moved into a large office in Campbell, CA. They also started their own production shop. Arnold Pierce Associates continued to grow, employing up to 16 people including three of Arnold and Mary’s daughters, Eve, Julie and Nannette, all of whom were very instrumental in the companies continued success.

In 1996 with sales growing every year the company outgrew its’ old digs and made a move to its much larger current location at 307 Meridian Ave. in San Jose, CA. Along with the move came a name change to Pierce Signs & Displays. For the next five years the company continued it’s growth and success, offering complete sign services to the building industry.

In 2000 a huge event took place, Arnold & Mary Pierce retired. The company was taken over by their daughter Nannette Hopson and her husband, John Hopson. With over 30 combined years at Pierce Signs & Displays the transition was seamless and except for missing the everyday presence of Arnold & Mary at the office not much has changed. Arnold continues to consult for Pierce Signs & Displays, Inc. and is a continued valuable presence.
